BANANA NUT CAKE MY VERSION

BANANA NUT CAKE- MY VERSION
My husband loves the Banana nut loaf from Wegmans. I tried to make the same at home and it turned out pretty well. I am posting the recipe of this cake as I have used a standard recipe for the banana nut loaf. I made a few changes from the original recipe like substituting whole milk with half and half, used almonds and dry fruits instead of walnuts, and also added a teaspoon of cardamom powder. The taste of this cake was so great. We had a few slices and I packed it off to my husband’s office. It was a big hit there and he came home with an empty box :) I guess that’s the exact compliment every cook wants; empty dishes….I have not used any icing here as the cake itself was very rich. It can be had with ice cream (we did that, yum!). The picture posted here does not speak for the cake, I guess I need to improve my photography skills :(

My Favorite Food Network Star – Alton Brown

When people hear I’m a Chef (or at least that I play one on the internet), they always ask the same two questions. What kind of food do you cook? And, who’s your favorite TV Chef? The first question’s one I can never answer, since I cook everything I can get my hands on. I never understand that first question, and usually give some smart-ass response like, “edible foods” or “the kind you buy at the market.” The second question is easy; Alton Brown. His sense of humor, his entertaining delivery, and his scientific (yet simple) approach to food is what really makes me such a big fan. Besides, his jokes and puns are almost as bad as mine!

Here is a short, and I think inspirational, interview he did on the Big Idea recently. It’s an interesting look behind the man and his show, Good Eats. Enjoy.

My Taste of Norfolk Recap

Im back in beautiful (and much drier) San Francisco after a very fun weekend in Norfolk, Virginia. In case youre interested, I just published a recap of the trip on my American Food site on About.com.

The food and wine were very good, but the highlight was being able to meet, and speak with at length, Al Doumar – a true American food icon.

What fun times we had last night in my husbands words

Last night, we had the good luck (due to good friends) who took us along for a spas promotional party at the Taj Hotel - Apollo Bunder. The highlights of the evening were a hair-style fashion show, 3 salsa performances and another fashion show in which the spas own members showed off a variety of out-of the world hair styles! That is a short and straight version....for the longer version, check Sumanths blog. He beat me to writing the gory details about the fun time we had last evening!

And its Ammas birthday today! Wishing you a very happy birthday Amma.
