Christmas in Connecticut

Cut to Jefferson Jones, a sailor adrift at sea for weeks after his destroyer is torpedoed. Memories of the food described in Lanes columns are central to his survival. After his rescue, as hes recuperating in a naval hospital, a marriage-minded nurse thinks she might nudge Jones to the altar if he could only experience a real domestic Christmas. And it just so happens that she was nurse to the grandchild of Alexander Yardley, the wealthy and powerful publisher of --you guessed it--Smart Housekeeping magazine. And so, she pens the letter that could unravel Lanes carefully constructed fraud. She writes to Yardley asking that Jones be included in Americas ultimate Christmas--the one to be held at the Lane family farm in Connecticut. The pompous Yardley (ably portrayed by Sidney Greenstreet) believes the Lane myth and instantly sniffs a story that will send his magazines circulation skyrocketing. And staring down a lonely holiday, he decides to join the Lanes for Christmas on the farm, too. Now, all Lane has to do is come up with a farm. And a husband. And lets not forget the baby. Christmas in Connecticut is classic screwball entertainment of the best kind, with its on-target skewering of social convention and house-of- cards-about-to-tumble tension: a perfect farcical vision of domestic blitz. --Susan Benson

Does it simply Christmas recipes
Because my husband and I have family seen in the Christmas season, we spend time with his family in our House on Christmas Eve and my family in their home on Christmas day. As my mom always makes large beautiful dinner and we have so much going on the time, Im typically a snack buffet table for the celebration of Christmas Eve in our House.
It is very easy and helps my stress level hold down. I can it make all ahead of time and only set up the table later. I understand fancy with the table decoration, but include a pretty poinsettia tablecloth and beautiful vacation paper plate and napkins. It is now a tradition, which all forward looks, because it is easy and delicious snacks all day long offers. The best part is that with paper plate, there is no food or pots and pans, wash! The only clean up involved is removed all remains, i.e. If any!
Here are a few tips, plan own snack buffet. If you have time, take a piece of paper and start writing down some of the ways. Note all recipes mind come read the following as you:
~ Bowls filled with things to diving is always popular. I like a dish with Ranch to delete Veggie dip (I use to make the dip the package Uncle of dans found in the grocery store) and a selection of crackers with my popular recipe clam dip.
~ A tray with sandwich stuff. I invite a tray with deli meat and cheese and other sandwich stuff such as onions, tomatoes, cucumbers, mayonnaise and mustard. You can try a club sandwich or Reuben sandwich makings tray stuff. You can experiment with different kinds of bread such as party rye or sourdough.
~ Cookies and sweets. Every year I make two or three of our family favorite recipes contained below. What is your family favorite cookie and candy recipes?
~ Drinks. The Irish cream recipe below served over ice is wonderful, and a special treatment. We buy also pop and beer and this seems, all make happy. You need maybe a favorite punch, eggnog, or hot butter rum recipe that you want to use.
~ Crunchy things. I have made getting the Chex mix.
Dont forget that you can help family members or other guests! This gives more variety and less work! You just tell them to bring a snack type item.

A little break from the Christmas recipes Muffins cupcakes for every day use
I suppose the following – my own recipe – falls somewhere in between the two. It is a cake recipe, but I have added a bread ingredient: whole-wheat flour.
Basic recipe:
1 cup flour
1/2 cup whole wheat flour
1 cup sugar
1 tsp baking powder
1 egg
50 g margarine or butter, melted
1/2 tsp vanilla essence
Enough milk to make a thick batter, usually about 2/3 cup
12 paper muffin cups
1 12 muffin baking tray (mine came from Ikea)
Mix flour, sugar and baking powder in a bowl. Add egg, milk, vanilla and melted margarine and stir into a thick batter. Put paper muffin forms into the cups in the baking tray and fill each to 2/3 full with batter. Bake at 190°C (180°C if you have a convection oven), for about 20-30 minutes, or until the cakes are golden and a pin stuck in one of them comes out clean. These cakes are moist, delicious and not too sweet, and will keep for several days.
Cooled muffins can be spread with lemon or cocoa icing.
Variations:
Berry muffins:
1 cup berries, may be frozen (I love bilberry muffins, but mixed wild berries are also good in muffins)
Fill each muffin cup to 1/3 full with batter. Divide the berries evenly between the cups and top with the rest of the batter.
White muffins with chocolate chips:
1/2 to 1 cup chocolate chips, depending on how rich you want the muffins to be.
Fold gently into the batter and prepare as indicated in the basic recipe.
Double chocolate muffins:
Make dough with 3 tbs dark cocoa powder and ½ cup chocolate chips, white, dark or mixed.
Jam muffins:
Fill each muffin cup to 1/3 full with batter. Put a teaspoon of your favourite jam in the centre of each blob of batter and top with the rest of the batter.
Cinnamon muffins:
Mix together 1/2 cup sugar and 2 tsp powdered cinnamon and sprinkle on top of the batter before you bake the muffins.
Cinnamon-raisin muffins:
Add 1/2 cup raisins to the batter and top with cinnamon-sugar before baking.
They taste even better the day after you make them.
